The computer detects a usb thumb drive no problem though, it is just external harddrives. Loaded w8.1 and the drive was not recognized there. the drive shows as disk 1 and a healthy primary partition but I cannot assign it a drive letter. Once out I connect a Seagate Slim Drive which immediately shows up. This error message can help you fix the problem — you may want to perform a Google search for the error message you find. At first it wouldnt recognize the SSD, so I unplugged the other two drive to load the OS.
