If you are not able to access the Add-Ins option in "Word Options" even using the steps above, you should try to rename or remove the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options. I have uninstalled and re-installed Office. In Word, and in fact all programs from the Office 2007 suite, I can't drag the mouse pointer to select text. I deactivated it and now its OK. It was due to an automatic update for Word 2007.
Glad I found this before removing and reinstalling software.
