I guess this is more common than I thought. Its not unknown for these modes to be buggy in linux. I updated the driver through device manager.

I can verify that the problem is with the computer, as my old laptop, my phone, and other devices all seem to be doing fine and don't experience the same problem. These types of intermittent wireless connection problems can be very difficult to track down as there are many possible causes.
