That's one of the things (problems) with giving this type of help, the feedback kinda sucks. This worked form me one time when I was haveing the same problem. The modem & router may all be one device.
- My sis has the above laptop.
- Just wondering if someone got into your router and changed the settings.

I can get on a neighbor's unsecured network. Even if you have no internet you should still be able to detect and connect to the wireless network.
